Westchester, New York Tai Chi Instructor to Present at International Tai Chi Symposium
Bronxville, New York (PRWEB) March 31, 2009 -- In a rare honor, Tai Chi instructor Domingo Colon, from the Tai Chi School of Westchester, est. 1978 in Bronxville New York, has been invited to give an oral and poster presentation at the International Tai Chi Symposium to be held July 5-10, 2009 in Nashville, TN (www.taichisymposium.com).
This symposium is directed primarily to Tai Chi teachers to advance their knowledge and understanding of Tai Chi's health benefits and how to effectively communicate this information to the general population. Emphasis will be placed on how to work with individuals who may have limitations that prevent them from participating in other types of fitness programs.
Domingo Colon will do a presentation on "Teaching Tai Chi to Special Populations".
His extensive background in Tai Chi (Master Colon began his study of Tai Chi in 1965) and experience in teaching Tai Chi to a wide variety of populations made Master Colon the ideal candidate to help other Tai Chi teachers continue to improve their ability to help others through their teaching (www.taichischool.com ).
Master Colon also has a background in physical therapy that has facilitated his ability to clearly and safely convey the benefits of Tai Chi to individuals who may have Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Arthritis, Heart conditions, AIDS, and many other conditions.
Master Colon has devoted many years to working with seniors to improve their balance, flexibility, strength, circulation and respiratory function through Tai Chi. In fact, Master Colon wrote "Senior's Tai Chi Workout", a popular home study program, to more easily allow seniors to continue to practice Tai Chi on their own (www.seniorstaichiworkout.com).
Since Tai Chi exercises have been shown through many well documented research projects to improve many conditions, it is important to demonstrate how and why these exercises can help individuals with special needs more than other approaches. This symposium seeks to address this need. Master Colon's presentation will provide the benefit of his more than 44 years of Tai Chi experience and physical therapy training to assist other Tai Chi teachers in creating programs to more effectively reach those who have the greatest need of Tai Chi's many health benefits.
